First Mensa Foundation Prize awarded |
David Silver, who led the development of the first computer program to defeat the world’s best Go players, is the inaugural recipient of the Mensa Foundation Prize. The research by Silver’s AlphaGo team at DeepMind elevated artificial intelligence to a new level, said Dr. Harry Ringermacher, chair of the prize committee. |
The biennial award comes with a $10,000 prize. “Thanks to the vision and generosity of Kenneth D. Thomson, who funded this award through his bequest, the Foundation is able to recognize significant achievements that support the use of intelligence with an award that is also significant,” said Marie Mayer, President of the Foundation Board of Trustees. |
