First Mensa Foundation Prize awarded
David Silver, who led the development of the first computer program to defeat the world’s best Go players, is the inaugural recipient of the Mensa Foundation Prize. The research by Silver’s AlphaGo team at DeepMind elevated artificial intelligence to a new level, said Dr. Harry Ringermacher, chair of the prize committee.
The biennial award comes with a $10,000 prize. “Thanks to the vision and generosity of Kenneth D. Thomson, who funded this award through his bequest, the Foundation is able to recognize significant achievements that support the use of intelligence with an award that is also significant,” said Marie Mayer, President of the Foundation Board of Trustees.

Her students love MensaForKids.org's Excellence in Reading lists, but they were having trouble finding enough copies until school administrators agreed to buy an entire set for the school. In a conversation with her students, one third-grader summed up their passion for reading this way:
“I enjoy reading chapter books from the [Excellence in Reading] list because they teach you better grammar, and like when they don't have pictures in it, you can imagine your own story and how it goes.”
